ARTIST STATEMENT
I paint landscapes, figures, portraits and glimpses of everyday life. I am inspired by the simplicity, ephemeral quality and the brilliance in nature.
My landscapes include views from my travels, seen from different perspectives as well as Plein air painting. Juxtaposing man made and natural elements, sunlight and shadows, warmth and coolness I aim to create dramatic contrast in these paintings.
Portraits are largely my commissioned work. Using photographs I work on various subjects using oil paint on canvas as well as pastel or charcoal on paper.
My abstract paintings are intuitive and expressionist. Using acrylics and mixed media I work in layers with color, form, line, texture and gestural strokes, inspired by my recollection of images and imagination.
